When MS Dhoni failed to reach the crease in the ICC World Cup 2019 semi-finals against New Zealand, it broke the heart of millions of cricket fans. Dhoni’s wicket almost made it certain that the Indian team have to wait four more years to have a shot at bring back the World Cup trophy to India.

Looking back at that match, New Zealand completely overpowered the Indian cricket team. The top order failed miserably and the middle order provided a little resistance.

It was MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja, who kept the hopes alive for India to win the game. Eventually, however, the two stars were unable to battle against the odds.

Prior to that game, Dhoni had proved on numerous occasions that until the time he was at the crease, India was never out of the game. Similar was the case in that match and it appears as the New Zealand players were very well aware about the fact. Recently, Jimmy Neesham revealed the mindset of his team before and after picking up Dhoni’s wicket.

He tweeted, “Before: Cool we’re probably gonna win. After: Cool we’re definitely gonna win.”

Things went down as NZ hoped and they managed to knock out India out of the World Cup. That was the last time MS wore the blue jersey for his country and retired from international cricket a few months later.

Fast forward to 2021, India has a chance to take some sort of revenge against New Zealand in an ICC tournament. The two sides will face off against each other on June 18 for the World Test Championship finals.
