Kolkata Knight Riders will take on defending champions Chennai Super Kings in the first match of the league starting on Saturday, March 26. Kolkata Knight Riders wants to win this match and make up for the defeat they suffered in last season’s final. IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders has played their first intra-squad practice game at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy Ground in Mumbai on Wednesday. Preparations are in full swing, before the first match, Kolkata Knight Riders played their first practice match of the season by dividing their squad into two parts, Team Purple and Team Gold. The practice matches are a great platform for newcomers to present their case for selection and a few of them might get a chance during the season.

Team Gold batted first in this match. Ajinkya Rahane & Venkatesh Iyer Open the Innings. Ajinkya Rahane gone early in the bowling of Young Kashmir Pacer Rasikh Salam. Venkatesh Iyer is in good form for his team in the Intra-Squad match. The star all-rounder continues to send the ball off the field after playing an aggressive role against both pacer & spinner. At the end of 20 overs, Team Gold scored 204 runs for the loss of six wickets. Venkatesh made 87 runs off 47 balls. Another all-rounder Aman Khan’s bat came off a short cameo of 26 off 13 balls.

Abhijeet Tomar & Nitish Rana succesfully chased down the target in Intra-Squad Match of Kolkata Knight Riders

The magic of left-handed batsmen continues even after Team Purple has come down to chase the big run target. Nitish Rana finished the game in just 17 overs after playing an unbeaten half-century (51 off 29 balls). Abhijit Tomar scored the highest run for the team. He played an innings of 52 runs from 26 balls. Rinku Singh is in good form. Rinku Singh made 48 off 22 balls. Varun Chakravarthy has picked up 1 wicket. In the end, Team Purple won the match by seven wickets.

Shreyas Iyer will be leading KKR in IPL 2022. Iyer, Rana, Pat Cummins, Varun Chakravarthy, Tim Southee are among confirmed selections in the final XI. Cummins and Aaron Finch are confirmed to miss the first five matches of the season due to international commitments.
