LSG successfully chased down 211 vs CSK

The Lucknow Super Giants have won the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the first time, defeating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six wickets. Quinton de Kock and Evin Lewis both hit half-centuries for LSG, while Ayush Badoni showed his range of hitting in the death overs, demonstrating that he has a calm head over his shoulders.

CSK had gotten off to a fantastic start thanks to Robin Uthappa. Uthappa teed off from the get go, taking the assault to the LSG bowlers, despite losing his opening partner Ruturaj Gaikwad to an innocuous run-out. He punished anything wide or on his legs, effortlessly pounding off runs. Moeen Ali came out to bat in his first game of the season.

Even though Uthappa hit his fifty off only 25 balls, the second-wicket stand of 56 runs came in just five overs, illustrating that experience matters in the shortest version of the game. Ravi Bishnoi, on the other hand, pinned him in front of the stumps at precisely the appropriate time, much to the relief of the LSG side. When the other bowlers were going for plenty at the other end, the youthful leg-spinner was outstanding once again during his four-over performance.

In the final over of his tenure, he also castled Ambati Rayudu, finishing with the figures of 2/24. Meanwhile, Shivam Dube, who had been promoted to bat at number four, dazzled everyone with his power hitting. The talented batter couldn’t contribute with the bat much in the previous game but made amends against LSG. It was an exhibition some excellent hitting from him before he got out on 49 from 30 balls with five fours and two sixes.

The 211-run chase required a strong start, which LSG received from KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock. To keep up with the desired run-rate, they each took calculated risks. In the sixth over, Moeen Ali dropped a sitter to rescue De Kock, while Rahul was also let off in the eighth over.

Rahul and De Kock made them pay notching up a brilliant 99-run stand in around 10 overs. De Kock also got to his half-century and things had started to look ominous for CSK. However, the debutant Dwaine Pretorius read Rahul’s mind to surprise him with a short ball even as the batter crouched down to play shot over fine-led fielder. But Rahul could only top-edge and Ambati Rayudu held on to a good catch running behind.

Manish Pandey’s poor run in the IPL continued as he hit one straight into the hands of the mid-off fielder. De Kock quickly ran out of steam after top-edging a short ball from Pretorius and being caught by MS Dhoni. CSK did well to bowl some good overs, putting pressure on the South African batter until he gave up. Despite this, De Kock batted well, scoring 61 off 45 deliveries and hitting nine fours.

At the other end of the field, Evin Lewis, batting at number four, delivered some lusty punches to keep his team in the game. Dwayne Bravo took it upon himself to bowl the 18th over of the innings and snatched Deepak Hooda to become the IPL’s all-time leading wicket-taker. With the equation reduced to 34 runs off the final two overs and the major bowlers bowled out, Shivam Dube was tasked with bowling for the first time in the contest.

And the all-rounder succumbed to pressure, with Ayush Badoni smashing him for a six and Evin Lewis also having a piece of him in the penultimate over as the duo churned out 25 runs. With only nine runs to defend, debutant Mukesh Choudhary couldn’t do much as the ever-impressive Badoni finished the game in style to give his side their first ever win in the tournament.

Meanwhile, CSK has lost their second game in a row, and they have a lot of work to do. They’ll have to figure out their combination quickly before time runs out.
