Martin Guptill and Deepak Chahar staredown

Following a forgetful T20 World Cup, Indian are back in their den as they host New Zealand for a T20I series. The Kiwis put up a dominant batting performance as Martin Guptill put up a show before the hosts bounced back in the death overs. Guptill’s wicket proved key as New Zealand who once looked set for a huge total were restricted to just 164.

Martin Guptill and Mark Chapman were phenomenal atop the order as they put up a quickfire century stand but everything fell apart thereafter. As the set batsmen departed ahead of the death overs, the Indian quicks were quick to strangle the flow of runs as the Kiwis fell well short of the par score at the venue.

The 18th over witnessed some banter between Martin Guptill and Deepak Chahar. The Kiwi opener smashed the first ball of the over for a humongous 98m six and stared down Chahar who had a bad day at the office. The very next ball, Chahar came roaring back as he sent Guptill packing.

The Indian quick outfoxed Guptill as he bowled a slower one and shortened the length. Having pumped the previous delivery, the veteran opener decide to give it a heave but only to be caught at midwicket. Shreyas Iyer covered much ground to complete the catch and this time it was Deepak Chahar who gave the death stare to send Guptill off.

In the end, the total proved too easy for the Indians as they chased it down comfortably with balls to spare. Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav starred with the bat as the hosts got off to a winning start in the T20I series. Rohit‘s first game as the full-time captain turned out to be a walk in the park at the end.
