Michael Vaughan

Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan has made a name for himself for his predictions and digs aimed at the Indian cricket team. It all started ahead of India’s tour of Australia where he predicted a 4-0 win for the hosts. Even after the series was level at 1-1, he stated that India’s win at Melbourne was a one-off and that the Aussies would still go on to win 3-1. But India went on to win the series and Vaughan was forced to have ‘humble pie’.

In the series against England that followed, Vaughan was critical of the pitches on offer in India and spoke of how they weren’t good for cricket. In the limited-overs series, he also famously stated that the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) was a better side than the Indian national T20 team. All of these predictions and digs earned him quite a lot of following on Twitter. Now, he has come up with another bold predictions.

Michael Vaughan spoke to Spark Sport about the upcoming WTC final and said, “English conditions, the Duke ball, and India on the back of a busy schedule… they’ll arrive pretty much a week before and go straight into it. New Zealand have two test matches, you could argue warmups against England to get them prepared for the final. So it’s quite an obvious one for me, New Zealand will be better prepared and they’ll have more of a group of players who’ve played more cricket with the red ball, particularly the Duke ball here in the UK. New Zealand, all the way.”

Vaughan then spoke on the comparisons between skippers Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson and added, “If Kane Williamson was Indian, he would be the greatest player in the world. But he’s not because you’re not allowed to say that Virat Kohli is not the greatest, because you’d get an absolute pelting on social media. So, you all say Virat is the best purely to get few more clicks and likes, few more numbers following here. Kane Williamson, across formats, is equally the best. I think the way he plays, the calm demeanour, his humbleness, the fact that he is silent about what he does.”

The WTC final begins on the 18th of June.
