“15 all out!”- Netizens go bonkers as Adelaide Strikers bundle out Sydney Thunder for the lowest T20 total ever
Adelaide Strikers bundle out Sydney Thunder for lowest T20 total ever
It’s just the first week of the Big Bash League 2022-23 season, and the cricket fraternity saw a mind-boggling incident. Adelaide Strikers bundle out the Sydney Thunder for just 15 runs on Friday (December 18). They lost the match by 124 runs while chasing a target of 140.
The 15 runs were the lowest innings total in a T20 match ever. Previously, Turkey held this record when they scored 21 against the Czech Republic in 2019.
Surprisingly, the four runs scored by Brendan Doggett (batting at No.10) was Sydney’s highest individual score. A total of five wickets had gone for ducks.
Players like Alex Ross, Daniel Sams, Rilee Rossouw, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Oliver Davies, and even T20 World Cup 2022 winner Alex Hales couldn’t even score four runs. The batters who were gone for ducks are- Hales, Matthew Gilkes, Jason Sangha, Chris Green, and Gurinder Sandhu.
The Thunders didn’t even play the full overs of the Powerplay, as they were bowled out in just 5.5 overs. Matt Short started by dismissing Gilkes in the first over. The second wicket of Rossouw (3) fell on the second over off Henry Thornton’s delivery.
Thornton then dismissed Sangha for a duck. Hales became the victim of Wes Agar in the third over. The fifth wicket fell in the third over.
By then everyone must be thinking about what’s happening. Were they expecting the upcoming batters to finally start adding runs? But no. The sixth wicket, of Alex Ross, fell in the fourth over and by then, the team did not even cross the two-digit run mark.
Chris Green was the seventh batter to walk back in the fifth over, followed by Sandhu in the same over. The last two wickets fell in the sixth over with Doggett being the highest scorer with his four runs off two balls.
That four came off a boundary, the only boundary in the entire innings.
Amongst the bowlers, Thornton grabbed five wickets, Agar got four, and Matt Short grabbed one wicket. Thornton was adjudged the Player of the Match.
