Despite it being a mini-auction, the 10 IPL teams spent ₹2,30,45,00,000 on 72 players, out of which 30 were overseas.

On 19th December, the IPL Auction saw big buys from all teams. There were record breaking purchases in the Auction. It was also the mini-auction with the highest combined spending, with ₹2,30,45,00,000 being spent. 

Many Australian bowlers earned big bucks, while few Indian uncapped players went on high prices. There were a couple of surprises in there and some outrageous buys. Out of the 72 combined slots left, the 10 teams purchased 72 players, with 30 being overseas.

SIx players were bought for ₹10 crore or more, while plenty earned crores. The top two highest purchases in the IPL were also completed in the 2024 IPL Auction, with two Australian pacers earning in excess of ₹20 crores.

10. Rovman Powell (₹7.40 Crore to Rajasthan Royals)

Batter Rovman Powell was the first player to be put up on the Auction. The 30-year-old from West Indies was subjected to a bidding battle by Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals. From the base price of ₹1 crore, the teams kept outbidding each other till KKR backed out

9. Shahrukh Khan (₹7.40 Crore to Gujarat Titans)

The all-rounder from Tamil Nadu is known for his ball-striking attitude and was with Punjab Kings for a good time. Although PBKS did try to get him back, Gujarat Titans out bid them and he will now play for a different IPL team after 3 years. 

8. Rilee Rossouw (₹8 Crore to Punjab Kings)

The South African batter finally found an IPL team just after being released by DC. The batter played for Royal Challengers Bangalore but was then released. Only two teams were fighting for the services of Rossouw, them being PBKS and Delhi Capitals. 

7.  Samir Rizvi (₹8.6 Crore to Chennai Super Kings)

The most expensive uncapped player at the 2024 IPL Auction, Samir Rizvi had a base price of only ₹20 Lakhs and got the big bucks. The 20-year-old from Uttar Pradesh had a great UP T20, where he scored the fastest ton, and was purchased by the defending champions. Apart from CSK, GT and DC were attempting to buy the youngster. 

6. Spencer Johnson (₹10 Crore to Gujarat Titans)

The Australian pacer has recently broken into the T20 scene thanks to his performances in the Big Bash League. Along with the BBL, he performed well in The Hundred, where he played for Oval Invincibles. GT, KKR and DC were all involved in the bidding process, but GT were successful at the end.

5. Alzarri Joseph (₹11.5 Crore to Royal Challengers Bangalore)

The pacer from West Indies, who used to play for Mumbai Indians and GT, was purchased by RCB. He currently holds the record for the best bowling figures in the history of the IPL. 4 teams bid for him, which included CSK, DC, LSG, but RCB were the eventual winners. 

4. Harshal Patel (₹11.75 Crore to Punjab Kings)

The 2021 IPL Purple cap- winner was released by RCB due to his poor performances in 2023. He was once again in high demand, with GT, LSG and PBKS fighting for his services. The eventual winners of the bid were Punjab Kings, who paid a whopping ₹ 11.75 crore for Harshal Patel

3. Daryl Mitchell (₹14 Crore to Chennai Super Kings)

One of New Zealand’s best players in the recent World Cup, Mitchell was wanted by DC, CSK and PBKS. Although DC and PBKS opened the bidding, the defending champions outbid the remaining two and got the services of a great all-rounder. 

2. Pat Cummins (₹20.50 to Sunrisers Hyderabad)

Whilst everyone expected Pat Cummins to become one of the most expensive buys of the IPL Auction, no one expected him to be sold at the price he was. Cummins was the first ever player to be sold at ₹20 crore or more, and was also the most expensive player, but only for a 90 minutes. 

1. Mitchell Starc (₹24.75 to Kolkata Knight Riders)

On his return to the IPL, Starc became the most expensive player in the history of the IPL. One of the most lethal bowlers of his generation, his skills with the new ball is one to behold. Earlier he played for RCB, but for the 2024 IPL he will play for their rivals, KKR.
