CSK players celebrate win over GT

MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) on Tuesday in IPL 2023 Qualifier 1 to book a spot in the summit clash. CSK defeated defending champions by 15 runs to make it to their 10th final, the most by any team in the tournament history. It was a near-perfect performance for the four-time champions as they bowled out Gujarat for 157, for the first time since the team started playing in IPL.

After being asked to bat first, CSK openers, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway put on a good partnership (87 runs). However, after Gaikwad fell, CSK felt the turbulence and the scoring rate went down. Shivam Dube too could not leave an impact as he was dismissed for a 3-ball 1. Ajinkya Rahane (17 off 10), Ambati Rayudu (17 off 9), and MS Dhoni (1 off 2) also failed to get going.

However, Ravindra Jadeja (22 off 16) played some attacking shots and helped CSK post a decent total (172/7). In the second innings, Deepak Chahar provided the early breakthrough when he sent back Wriddhiman Saha. Hardik Pandya promoted himself but to only get dismissed for a 7-ball 8. Dasun Shanaka (17 off 16), David Miller (4 off 6), Vijay Shankar (14 off 10), and Rahul Tewatia (3 off 5) also fell cheaply.

Shubman Gill fails to take GT home

Amid all the chaos, Shubman Gill was sensibly batting and was keeping GT alive in the chase. However, with wickets tumbling at the other end and the required rate soaring, Gill tried to up the ante but was caught at fine leg off Deepak Chahar. The opening batter was dismissed after scoring 38-ball 42.

With Gill going down, all the hopes for a GT win were quashed. Although Rashid Khan played a blistering knock (30 off 16), he could not take his team over the line. Meanwhile, it was a sea of joy for CSK fans as their team cruised into another IPL Final.
