“MS Dhoni did not win the World Cup”- AB de Villiers slams fans for crediting MS Dhoni for the 2011 World Cup Victory

Ex-South African captain, AB de Villiers, had started his own YouTube channel in late 2022, but started uploading videos regularly in March 2023. In August 2023, he started to take live question and answer sessions on his channel.

In his latest Q&A episode, he was unhappy regarding the fact that many fans credit MS Dhoni for winning the 2011 ICC ODI World Cup. Regarding the topic, his say was, “Cricket is a team game. A player alone doesn’t lift the World Cup. On Twitter I see people saying Dhoni alone won the World Cup, but that’s not right. MS Dhoni did not win the World Cup, whole Team India won the World Cup. Ben Stokes did not lift the trophy in Lord’s in 2019, it was team England.”

He further added how important the coaching staff, selectors and even board members are instrumental in winning a World Cup. He said, “There is a lot that goes into winning a World Cup from coaching staff to selectors, the board members, the players, the subs, everyone adds a little bit of potion to the mixture.”

AB de Villiers predicts Shubman Gill will be the highest run scorer of the 2023 ODI World Cup

The first question asked to Mr. 360 in the Q&A session was his thoughts on Shubman Gill’s batting technique. He said his technique was simple and basic, just like some of the best batsmen of all time, with the exception of Steve Smith.

He called Shubman Gill a very traditional batsman who doesn’t change a lot of things. De Villiers said one of Gill’s biggest strengths is how he changed gears and put pressure on bowlers. He was impressed at how Gill looked like an experienced batsman despite being so young. The South African also expects more in the future from the young star and predicted that he could be the highest run scorer of the tournament.
