Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) failed to win a title on their 16th attempt as the Bengaluru-based franchise could not even make it to the playoffs in IPL 2023. And now, the team management is eyeing an overhaul of their backroom staff with Director Mike Hesson and coach Sanjay Bangar failing to deliver for the team.

As per reports in the media, RCB have not yet renewed the contracts of their backroom staff. The contracts are generally up for renewal by September but the management has kept the staff waiting.

“Their contract with RCB is still intact,” RCB said in a statement (via ESPNCricinfo). “The team is still under the process of review. We will come back if any announcement on the changes in the team.”

Notably, Mike Hesson joined RCB in 2019 when the team revamped its coaching staff post a horrible show in the 12th edition of the tournament. Meanwhile, Sanjay Bangar joined ahead of the IPL 2022 season after Simon Katich relieved himself from the coaching duties.

This piece of news drew mixed reactions from the fans. While some felt it was the need of the hour that RCB changed its coaching staff, some RCB fans hoped for Andy Flower to join the team who was recently relieved by Lucknow Super Giants.

It is worth noting that after Mike Hesson took over as the RCB’s Director of Cricket, the team made it to three successive playoffs in 2020, 2021, and 2022. However, RCB failed to win the title. The closest they have come to winning a title was in 2009, 2011, and 2016.
