England’s white-ball skipper Jos Buttler has been enjoying exceptional form in Vitality T20 Blast after a mixed campaign for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). After his match against Derbyshire Falcons, he became the ninth batsman in the history of the T20 format to reach the 10000-run mark.
Playing for Lancashire Lighting, the 32-year-old stitched a 101-run stand for the second wicket with Liam Livingstone off just 41 balls, helping Lancashire to put on 177/4 in 15 overs. The overs were reduced to 15 overs as rain interrupted the match for 80 minutes.
Buttler had struck six sixes and eight boundaries during his 39-ball 83-run knock, at a massive strike rate of 212.81. On the other hand, Livingstone simply played the role of a supporter, letting Buttler feast on the bowlers, by scoring an unbeaten 47 runs off 30 balls. Buttler missed scoring his century after Zaman Khan trapped him in the 12th over. The exploits helped Lancashire emerge victorious by 27 runs.
“I really enjoyed that. It was a lot of fun batting out there with Livi. He puts so much pressure on bowlers. Anytime you can extend the partnership like we did tonight it’s hard to control the scoring rate,” Buttler said after the match as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
Jos Buttler becomes the ninth batsman to reach 10000 T20 runs

The first on the list of the most runs scored in T20 cricket is the Universe Boss Chris Gayle who has amassed a mammoth 14,562 runs. Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik sits second on the list with 12,526 runs. Another West Indian, Kieron Pollard, is third on the list with 12,175 runs. In the fourth position is Virat Kohli (the only Indian in the top 5) has scored 11,965 runs followed by David Warner (11695), and Aaron Finch (11392).
Buttler, meanwhile, has collected 10080 runs at an average of 34.16 in 372 matches and sits ninth on the list. He also has six tons and 72 fifties to his name in the shortest format.
In the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Buttler played for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) but had a mixed season, unlike last year when he won the Orange Cap playing an important role for the Pink Jersey to reach the final. The astounding thing in IPL 2023 for Buttler was the unwanted five ducks he scored (the most in a season). Before this IPL, he fell for a duck only once.
