Veteran India opener Shikhar Dhawan has been a victim of the BCCI’s sword as over time he has been snubbed from all Indian squads. The lefty has lost his place in the squad to young talent and upcoming batters who are cruising on their way to the top. India’s man of ICC tournaments now struggles to even find a place in the squad, leave alone the playing XI.

Dhawan has always been admired for putting a smile on his face even while dealing with hardships, be it in his career or personal life. His impeccable contribution to the country is something that he will always be remembered for. Owing to Shubman Gill’s scintillating form, Shikhar Dhawan’s name is fading away from Indian cricket.

Recently while talking to ICC, Shikhar Dhawan being the kind person that he is, spoke about how he is drawing inspiration from the younger generation and that he appreciates the kind of fearless and out-of-box thinking they possess.

He said, “It’s really good to see. Change is the only constant thing in life. You have to adapt with time. It is lovely to see how players have come up with new strategies and new ways of thinking. Even like… we’ve been playing for such a long time, we get so inspired by all the young players when they come up with some new shots, and personally I ask ‘how you played that?’”

Shikhar Dhawan revealed that while trying to keep up with the trend of the T20 format and young batters, he took tips from Suryakumar Yadav regarding how he can increase his shot-making options.

He said, “I was asking SKY, he hits that six and I asked him ‘What do you do, man?’. So he was like, ‘I just bend and I do this’. I said I am going to try that in the nets as well because the more tools you can carry, it gets easier and it’s a wonderful mindset.”

Having been excluded from the Asian Games, the only hope left for Shikhar Dhawan to make a comeback to the Indian side is through the Asia Cup. With the Rohit Sharma-Shubman Gill duo doing well at the top, Shikhar Dhawan’s chances of being included in the ODI World Cup squad also seem slim. It will be interesting to see if a player that was once so valuable for the team at the top will be given another go after young players have risen to the occasion.
