Former India captain Virat Kohli shared the result of his Yo Yo test on social media a few days back when he was with the team in Bengaluru for a training camp before the 2023 Asia Cup. And though many Indian fans admired the talismanic India batter for the result despite his age, it created a controversy.

Kohli’s Yo Yo test score was 17.2 and he shared it on his Instagram Story. There were reports that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) verbally gave a warning to the players to never share the test result, stating that it is a “breach of contract”.

But India great Sunil Gavaskar came up with an interesting point in his recent column for Mid-Day. He stated that the BCCI should share the Yo Yo test score in the public domain so that the followers of cricket should get to know which players have not met the minimum standard in the team.

If it is true that unless the minimum standard of the Yo Yo test is not met, then the player is not eligible for selection then it’s all the more important for this Yo Yo test to be done in the public domain so that the public that follows the game in their millions know that there are no players who have not met the minimum standard in the team,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for Mid-Day.

India’s rising star Shubman Gill scored the most among the Indian players. He scored 18.7 and it’s better than Kohli, which suggests that the 34-year-old is no longer the fittest player in the team.

But Sunil Gavaskar asserted that while comparing the fitness levels of the two players, one must not forget the age difference. The 1983 World Cup-winning player praised Kohli for his result despite his being 34 years old.
