India’s newly-elected Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar means business. While the new Chairman of the BCCI Selection Committee has been impressive so far with his decisions, Agarkar is ready to go the extra mile to fulfill his duty. As per reports, Ajit Agarkar is all set to travel to the Caribbean for what will be his first meeting with India Head Coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma.
Agarkar is headed to the West Indies to discuss Team India’s future and prepare a blueprint for the ODI World Cup. Although the pool of players for the quadrennial showpiece event has been already identified, Agarkar wants to know the team management’s decision before coming up with the final squad.
As per a report in The Telegraph, Agarkar will be staying till the end of the white-ball series and might also discuss the team for the 2024 T20 World Cup. India’s premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness and return to action will also be up for discussion as the report claimed.

Ajit Agarkar to ask Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to stick to ODIs and Tests

India’s two batting stalwarts, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have not featured in a T20I ever since India lost to England in the semifinal of the 2022 T20 World Cup. While Hardik Pandya has been handling the captaincy duties, youngsters have been fitted to replace Kohli.
Now, as Ajit Agarkar will be in the Caribbean, he might discuss Rohit and Kohli’s T20I futures. As per the report, Agarkar will be asking the two stalwarts to stick to the longer formats (ODIs and Tests) while a young squad gets formed under Hardik Pandya.
“The time to bring in young blood in the T20 setup is overdue. They need enough opportunities and exposure before the big event to settle into their roles. Agarkar will make it clear to both Rohit and Kohli that they should concentrate on ODI and Test cricket,” a source was quoted as saying in the report.
