Over the past few weeks, there have been discussions surrounding the hosting rights of the 2023 Asia Cup which is scheduled to take place in Pakistan in September. But as India won’t change their decision of not sending their players to Pakistan, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has proposed a hybrid plan. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly rejected it.

A couple of weeks ago, BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has been waiting for the other involved nation’s inputs to come to a final decision. “We are awaiting feedback from other nations to finalize the venue for the 2023 Aisa Cup and clarity on the India-Pakistan match,” Shah was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Jay Shah, who is also the president of ACC, reportedly showed interest at first when the hybrid model was first introduced by the PCB however, that is not the case anymore. PCB has also rejected every alternative that suggests hosting the six-team tournament outside its country. Sri Lanka’s proposal of hosting the tournament was rejected by the PCB and at the same time, UAE seemed to be another option for staging India versus Pakistan matches.

Now this rejection may cancel the 2023 Aisa Cup altogether, as claimed by many sources. Though there has been no official confirmation regarding the same, according to other reports, the BCCI is also planning a new five-match tournament which will take place in the Asia Cup window.

PCB has pointed out that if the issues regarding the 2023 Aisa Cup are not solved, then fresh conflict may arise when Pakistan will host the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. If Asia Cup indeed gets canceled, then it can affect Pakistan’s plan to prepare for the 2023 ODI World Cup in October-November, which is set to take place in India, and PCB has previously threatened not to send their players to India for the same. An announcement on this issue will soon be made by the ACC.
