India’s dream to lift an ICC title remains intact with the Rohit Sharma-led team losing the 2023 World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia. India lost the summit clash of the second edition of the WTC by a massive 210 runs as they failed to chase 444 in the fourth innings.

Virat Kohli was the highest scorer for India in the second innings with his 78-ball 49. Ajinkya Rahane (46), and Rohit Sharma (43) too chipped in.

But none of these knocks proved enough as India had conceded a massive lead in their first innings. After conceding 469 in Australia’s first innings, India were bowled out for 296. The score could have been much lower had it not been for Ajinkya Rahane’s 89 and Shardul Thakur’s 51. Ravindra Jadeja had also stepped up for India with his 48.

The bowlers did a better job in the second innings but Australia managed a massive lead of 443 runs and asked India to chase a mammoth total. India got off to a terrible start, losing three wickets within hundred runs.

Although Kohli and Rahane propelled them to 164/3 by the end of Day 4, the two batters failed to capitalize on the start on Day 5. It started with Kohli’s wicket and ended with Mohammed Siraj handing a dolly to Scott Boland at backward point.

Fans left disappointed, yet again!

This defeat in the 2023 WTC Final left the Indian fans heartbroken as well as angry. They were left fuming at the players, the management, and even the Indian cricket board.

Meanwhile, captain Rohit Sharma once again threw the bowlers under the bus for the defeat in the WTC Final. Rohit said that after starting well in the first session, the bowlers lost track in the sessions that followed.

Sharma also credited Australia for their batting. “I thought we started well with winning the toss, putting them to bat in those conditions. We bowled well in the first session and then we let ourselves down with how we bowled. Got to give credit to the Australian batters,” said Sharma.
