The entire cricketing world knows the power of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It is one of the richest cricket boards in the world, with the Indian Premier League (IPL) being one of its biggest sources of income. While no one knows the net worth of the BCCI, a Cricbuzz report has stated it is 28 times that of Australia’s cricket board.
The BCCI’s net value is around ₹18,700 crore, which translates to $2.25 billion. The 2nd most valuable board is Cricket Australia, which is worth $79 million. At third is the English and Wales Cricket Board, which is worth $59 million.
The BCCI accounts for 85% of the combined value of the top 10 boards. The main source of revenue for the BCCI is the Indian Premier League, where they receive massive amounts of money to purchase rights, sponsorships and at times, even teams. With the Women’s Premier League also in full flow, the BCCI could earn more money from that avenue.
BCCI helps Cricket South Africa recover losses
The Indian Cricket Team will be touring South Africa for a month. The teams will play against each other in 2 Tests, 3 ODI and 3 T20Is. With this tour, many reports have said that it has helped the South African cricket board recover the losses for the past three years.
CSA had reported losses of over $28.5 Million in the previous three financial years. With India touring the nation, it has been reported that the board will make up for their losses and produce a profit as well. South African journalist, Telford Vice, claimed the India tour will bring in $68 Million, which is more than double of their losses.
India and South Africa are supposed to play the first T20I as of now, but due to rain the match has been delayed. At 4:45 pm local time, the match will start to lose overs. If conditions aren’t good enough, the match will be declared with no result.
