Team India faced a lot of criticism following their loss to England in the semifinals of the recently concluded T20 World Cup in Australia. It wasn’t just about the loss but the way they put down their swords, even without giving a fight. The three Lions easily chased down the target of 169 without losing a single wicket.

This has forced the management to revisit their strategy and prepare a new roadmap for the T20 World Cup 2024. As per reports published by The Telegraph, the BCCI are keen to bring in former Indian skipper MS Dhoni in some capacity to groom the T20I team.

Dhoni is likely to hang up his boots after IPL 2023 and then BCCI will probably send him a proposal to join the group. The governing body wants the 41-year-old to help players play a fearless brand of cricket. There are also reports that Dhoni might work with a special set of players to train them to excel across all three formats.

There is no doubt that no one can ever fill the shoes of MS Dhoni but a similar replacement has to be identified and groomed. Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh believes the Chennai-based franchise has to find a captaincy option who can take the team forward.

“They have a lot of work to do. Dhoni’s best cricket is behind him as well. Yes, he is the best captain today also. If you make him stand as a captain, you will not get that value from any other captain. You will have to find an option for him as well, who can come along with Dhoni who can take the team forward. There were some issues with Ravindra Jadeja, we don’t know what happened there,” Harbhajan said.
