The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) which is an organization and hence has a golden tick, lost its verification status on Elon Musk-owned X after the Indian board changed its profile picture to the Indian tricolor. BCCI changed its profile picture as a part of the social media campaign ahead of India’s Independence Day on 15 August.
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked his countrymen to put the Indian flag as their display pictures across social media platforms as the country gears up to celebrate its 77th Independence Day on Tuesday.
The BCCI also took part in this campaign and changed its profile picture to the Indian tricolor but at the cost of their golden tick. As soon as BCCI changed its profile picture, it lost its verification status and hence the golden tick was taken away.
Why was BCCI’s golden tick taken away and how will it get it back?
BCCI losing its golden tick caused a stir among the fans as they were left wondering about the reason behind it. As it turns out, it is due to the strict laws put in place by Elon Musk for verified accounts. The revised guidelines state that if an account on X makes a change to its profile picture, its verified status will be re-reviewed.
This means that BCCI’s account will be re-reviewed and if it complies with the guidelines, its golden tick will be restored. However, there is a chance that it might happen again if BCCI decided to go back to its original profile picture where it had its logo in the display picture.
