Indian young cricketer Ishan Kishan took a break from international cricket so that he could rejuvenate himself after travel fatigue. But he has not played a single match since then and instead of featuring in domestic cricket, he is training in Baroda along with his Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Hardik Pandya.

Kishan is now dealing with criticism and not just fans, even former Indian cricketers started taking a dig at the youngster for not playing in the Ranji Trophy. Amid all this, a senior member of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said the board has been contemplating to make Ranji Trophy participation mandatory in order to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The decision-makers at BCCI are well aware that some players don't want to play any red-ball cricket.
A senior BCCI official told PTI
To rein in such players, the board in all likelihood will make it mandatory to play 3-4 Ranji Trophy games, failing which they can't play IPL or even appear in an IPL auction if released by their franchise.
The BCCI official added

According to reports, Kishan was asked to take part in the Ranji Trophy match between Jharkhand and Rajasthan in Jamshedpur, starting February 16. It will be interesting to see if he plays the match or not.

BCCI has not instructed IPL teams about players’ workload management

The 2024 T20 World Cup is scheduled to start on June 1, with India playing their first match on June 5 in New York. The IPL this year is slated to start on March 22, and the fill is on May 26.

As per the mentioned BCCI official, the board has not given any instruction to the IPL franchises about the management of the players’ workload. The BCCI official said that as the players are being paid highly, they don’t have the choice to pick games to skip.

However, the BCCI official also stated that for those who are most likely to play in the World Cup, their fitness updates will be provided by the franchise’s support staff to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) Sports Science head Nitin Patel.
