English media outlet, The Telegraph, has reported that Ben Stokes has decided to make himself available for the ODI team. He retired from the format in July 2022, playing his last game in a loss against South Africa. Currently Stokes serves as the captain of the English Test team and plays in the middle order for the T20I team.
Stokes has been nursing a knee injury for quite some time now, not allowing him to bowl as regularly as he did. He has spoken about how frustrated he is that he can’t bowl as the 4th seamer for the test team. Stokes played his last T20I game in the 2022 T20I World Cup Final, scoring a crucial half century to win the game.
Stokes might miss the IPL which will be in the summer of 2024 to undergo a knee surgery. He needs a knee surgery and is ready to give up his Rs. 16.5 Crore contract with the Chennai Super Kings. There was buzz surrounding his playing for the Dhoni-led side but he played only 2 games in the 2023 IPL and missed many due to injury.
Fans react to Ben Stokes missing yet another IPL
This isn’t the first time Stokes has missed playing the IPL. He missed the 2022 IPL due to the national duty and dropped out of the 2021 IPL after playing only one game for Rajasthan Royals. He got out for a duck in that game.
