“Won’t be taking cricketing logic into account,” Brian Lara feels Virat Kohli CAN’T break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 100 centuries in international cricket

The legendary cricketer gave reasons why he thinks so, saying it's a tough job, given that a 35-year-old will need at least four years to reach the milestone.

Virat Kohli has 80 centuries to his name in international cricket, and he needs just 20 more to equal Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 100 centuries. But will he reach that landmark in the future? West Indian legend Brian Lara doesn’t think so.

Lara is a fan of Kohli’s batting, but that did not make him say that Kohli would score 100 tons. During an interview with Anandabazar Patrika, the legendary cricketer gave reasons why he thinks so, saying it’s a tough job, given that a 35-year-old will need at least four years to reach the milestone and at that time, he will be 39 years old.

Can't say with certainty, no one can. Those saying Kohli will break Tendulkar's 100-century record won't be taking cricketing logic into account. 20 Centuries seems a long way. Most cricketers can't score that in their entire career. I won't be adventurous and say Kohli will do it.

Brian Lara thinks Shubman Gill will break his record

India youngster Shubman Gill had a pretty great campaign in the 2023 ODI World Cup, if not the best. After battling dengue, the 24-year-old went on to feature in nine matches, collecting 354 runs with four half-centuries.

Currently, the ODI No.1 batter, Gill is having the best year he could wish for due to his form. He will make his return to the side for the three-match T20I series in South Africa and, after missing the three ODIs, will play the two Tests on the African continent.

During that interview with Anandbazar Patrika, Brian Lara lavished praise on the Punjab-born batter and thinks the youngster will break a lot of records in the future, including his highest individual Test score of 400. Lara pointed out that Gill has scored centuries in all the formats, has a double hundred in ODI, and has played many match-winning knocks in the Indian Premier League (IPL), and due to this reason he expects big things from Gill.
