CBI arrest 3 people for match-fixing in IPL 2022; Pakistan angle being investigated

After nine years, match-fixing has rocked IPL again. Central Bureau for Investigation (CBI) has booked three individuals from two cities for match-fixing in IPL 2022. CBI has also stated a probe based on the inputs received. Also, in this scandal, they are probing interference from Pakistan.
As per reports, CBI has started a country-wide investigation and was carrying out searches at seven locations in Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur and Jodhpur.
Dileep Kumar, based in Rohini, Delhi, and Gurram Vasu and Gurram Satish from Hyderabad are the accused in the lodged FIR. While in the second FIR, Sajjan Singh, Prabhu Lal Meena, Ram Avtar and Amit Kumar Sharma were all from Rajasthan. The scandal allegedly was operating from Rajasthan is continuing since 2010 and another is on since 2013.
The action was taken after CBI received information that “a network of individuals involved in cricket betting are influencing the outcome of Indian Premier League (IPL) matches based on inputs received from Pakistan. In the FIR, it was revealed that the accused were operating this through mule accounts which were opened by giving fake names with unknown bank officials.
“These bank accounts have been opened by submitting forged detains such as multiple dates of birth and without due diligence done by the bank officials”.

Money received through match-fixing is shared in foreign countries
The FIR further stated that through hawala transactions, part of the money received through match-fixing is being shared with allies in foreign countries.
“A part of the money received from the general public in India on account of such betting activities is also being shared with their associates using hawala transactions,” the FIR stated.
“The persons involved are running the racket of cricket betting, committing fraud by inducing betting by the general public and thereby deceiving public of their hard-earned money and also indulging in impersonating their identities in operating various bank accounts,” the FIR related to Delhi-Hyderabad racket alleged.
IPL is going on and will be played till 29th of May. So far, 64 matches haven been played. Yesterday’s match was between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders where the latter defeated the former by 54 runs.
