Sri Lanka pacer Chamika Karunaratne might be someone who shows lots of aggressive emotions on the field, but he turned pink when a Sri Lankan fangirl asked him to marry her. Karunaratne was interacting with the fans after their nine-wicket victory against Ireland on Sunday [October 23] at the Blundstone Arena in Hobart. 

The 26-year-old was in a happy mood while grabbing fans’ cellphones and clicking selfied. A girl was holding a board with these words written on it: “Chamika, will you marry me?” Karunaratne at first didn’t seem to notice but when he did read the board, he gave a blushing laugh while scratching his head. ICC’s official Instagram handle shared the video.

Talking about the match, Ireland posted 128/8 with the help of Paul Stirling (34 runs off 25) and Harry Tector (45 runs off 42 balls). Kusal Mendis scored an unbeaten 68 runs off 43 balls, while Dhananjaya de Silva (31 off 25) and Charith Asalanka (31 runs off 22) guided Sri Lanka to a nine-wicket victory.

Chamika Karunaratne’s “Naagin Dance” reaction had gone viral in the past

The “Nagin Dance” has become a symbol of the rivalry between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. In March 2018, during a match between the two countries in the Nidahas tri-series (involving India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka) in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh defeated the host by chasing 215.

Mushfiqur Rahim, who was the star of his team with his unbeaten 72-run knock, pulled out the viral celebration. During the qualifier for the final, these two again clashed.

Bangladesh needed just 12 runs from the last final five balls and but there was a lot of drama that happened before Bangladesh poured onto the field doing the Naagin Dance after beating the Lankans.

Four years later, Chamika Karunaratne was in the dressing room when Sri Lanka knocked out Bangladesh by two runs in the Asia Cup 2022. The video was widely shared on the micro-blogging platform. 

Notably, Sri Lanka lifted the Asia Cup 2022 trophy for the sixth time. As the Islanders are playing in the T20 World Cup, their next match will be against host Australia on Tuesday, [October 25].
