England pace bowler Chris Jordan has been signed by Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) as Jofra Archer’s replacement for the remainder of IPL 2023. Jordan has been signed by the franchise for his base price of INR 2 Crore. Meanwhile, Archer has flown back home with his recurring elbow injury. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the news through a statement on Tuesday.
Chris Jordan who was registered at a base price of INR 2 Crores went unsold at the IPL 2023 Mini Auction. Despite featuring in 28 matches in the history of the Indian T20 league and scalping 27 wickets, Jordan went unsold at the mini-auction. His below-average economy rate (9.32) was the main reason behind Jordan getting ignored.
Nevertheless, Jordan has now been signed by the five-time champions for the remainder of IPL 2023, as confirmed by ESPNCricinfo. The England pacer has previously plied his trade for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings.
“Mumbai Indians (MI) on Tuesday named Chris Jordan as a replacement for the injured Jofra Archer for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023,” announced BCCI.

With Mumbai struggling with their fast-bowling arsenal in IPL 2023, Jordan’s signing will bring some stability to the ranks. The five-time champions have been hit badly by the injury plague as Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out even before the tournament started. Jhye Richardson too was ruled out and Jofra Archer recently returned from Belgium after meeting an elbow specialist.
Too much to celebrate for Mumbai
Mumbai Indians will be playing their eighth match of IPL 2023 on Sunday, against Rajasthan Royals (RR) and will have a lot of things to celebrate. While the MI captain Rohit Sharma is celebrating his 36th birthday, the franchise is also celebrating the tenth anniversary of Rohit’s appointment as MI captain.
Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will also hold a mini celebration as IPL will complete its 1000th match when MI will lock horns against RR on Sunday.
