The legendary Indian captain MS Dhoni turned on Friday (July 7) and the cricket fraternity flooded social media with heartwarming wishes for ‘Captain Cool’. Dhoni, who was born in the year 1981, turned 42 today.
Dhoni is the only captain in the history of cricket to have led his team to three ICC trophies in white ball cricket. India under his leadership lifted the T20 World Cup in 2007, then the ODI World Cup in 2011, and two years later, won the Champions Trophy. He led the Test team to become the No.1 in 2009.
He also led his Indian Premier League (IPL) team Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to five trophies. Talking about his other accolades, his achievements as an Indian captain awarded him the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna in 2007, the Padma Shree in 2009, and the Padma Bhushan in 2018. The Ranchi-born cricketer bid adieu to cricket in 2020 through an Instagram post.
For India, he has played 90 Tests, 350 ODIs, and 98 T20Is, scoring 4876 runs, 10,773 runs, and 1617 runs respectively. In 250 IPL matches, he has scored 5082 runs. He has 195 stumpings and 634 catches to his name as an international wicketkeeper.
