Ex-South African legend, Allan Donald, has decided to not extend his contract with the Bangladesh Cricket Board after a falling out with the board. Joining the team’s staff as a bowling coach in February 2022, Donald stayed in the role till he decided he wanted to leave after the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup. After their loss to Australia on 11th November, his tenure as their bowling coach has come to an end.
Although Donald claims the reason he is leaving is so that he can spend time with his family, many claim that he is leaving after a disagreement with the BCB. After Shakib Al Hasan appealed for Angelo Mathews to be timed out, the 57-year-old publicly expressed his displeasure.

In an interview with CricBlog.net, Donald revealed he was unhappy with the way Mathews was dismissed and said such a thing should’ve never happened. He disagreed with Shakib Al Hasan, believing it was disrespectful to the sport. Due to his views, the BCB questioned him and were unhappy with him revealing it publicly. They didn’t take any action as his future with the Bangladesh team wasn’t certain yet.
Allan Donald says he has left Bangladesh’s pace attack in a good place
In an interview with ESPNcricinfo, the South African legend revealed that he was planning to extend his contract with the BCB but has now decided to quit so that he could spend time with his family. He was ready to travel to Dhaka to sign the contract, but after the World Cup, he knew he had to leave so that he could spend time with his 2-year-old grandson, who he misses.

I have had time in the World Cup to reflect on that. My immediate thought was that 12 months looks like a long time. The schedule looks very hectic. I'd better start thinking about my family. I got a two-year-old grandson who I miss dearly. I have been away for 82 days on the bounce. I think it got to me a little bit.Allan Donald to ESPNcricinfo
Allan Donald’s biggest achievement in his tenure so far is how he developed the pacers in Bangladesh. He believes he leaves Bangladesh after improving their pace attack and has already told his pacers that they could contact him whenever they need help.
He believes the pitches in Bangladesh should be catered to their pacers so that they could improve their overseas performances. During his time as bowling coach, the team has started to play 3 pacers in all formats with pacers like Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Ebadot Hussain, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud and the newcomer Tanzim Hasan.
