India went into the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup finals as favorites, but after a magnificent bowling performance by Australia it looks like things have changed. Sending India to bat first, Pat Cummins proved his decision right as the Aussies became the first side to bowl out India, restricting them to  just 240.

India lost their first wicket in the 5th over as Shubman Gill gave an easy catch off Mitchell Starc’s bowling. Rohit Sharma was the next to depart as a mistimed shot off Glenn Maxwell made him the 2nd Indian to get out. Shreyas Iyer only lasted 3 balls before getting out to Shreyas Iyer.

KL Rahul and Virat Kohli steadied the ship as they both kept rotating strike before Pat Cummins got Virat Kohli for 54. Ravindra Jadeja came in at No. 6 but was then sent back by Josh Hazlewood thanks to some reverse swing.

KL and Suryakumar Yadav tried building a partnership but it was unsuccessful as KL Rahul departed for 66 runs. Suryakumar Yadav failed as he scored only 18 off 28. The tailend put in a combined 26 runs before Kuldeep Yadav got run out on the last ball.

Fans still hopeful of India victory even after being bowled out for 240

Many fans are still hopeful India would end up as the champions of the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup. One took the example of the 2019 World Cup final, where 241 was a tough target. Many said the total was competitive enough and the Indian bowlers were good enough to defend it.
