On 2nd November, Sri Lanka faced India in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup. Going into the match, India were favorites to win but nobody knew how imposing their victory of Sri Lanka would be. India beat Sri Lanka by 302 runs, the 4th highest margin of victory in ODIs. After scoring a massive total of 357, the Indian pace attack ran through the batting line up of Sri Lanka and bowled them out for only 55 runs.

Being sent in to bat first, India lost Captain Rohit Sharma on the 2nd ball by Dilshan Madushanka. Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill built a valiant partnership of 189, before both were dismissed by Madushanka, missing out on their centuries. KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav didn’t contribute much with the bat, but Shreyas Iyer hit an explosive 82 off 56. Unfortunately, he was also another victim of Madushanka, who picked up his maiden five wicket haul. Thanks to the batting contributions, India scored 357.

Sri Lanka, who had been bowled out for just 50 runs in their last encounter with India, had a similar start. Jasprit Bumrah picked up the wicket of Prathum Nissanka on the very first ball, which was then followed with Mohammed Siraj picking up 3 wickets in his next two overs. Mohammed Shami was then introduced in the 10th over and joined the party by picking up 2 wickets in his first over. He then followed it up by picking up 3 wickets in his next three overs to pick up his 2nd fifer in the World Cup. Ravindra Jadeja picked up the final wicket to finish off Sri Lanka’s innings for only 55 runs.
