The Indian fans always pray for the exclusion of umpire Richard Kettleborough in all the ICC knockout matches, and it’s not different this time. The hearts of the Indian supporters skipped a beat when the ICC announced that Kettleborough will officiate the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup between India and Australia who are now locking horns on Sunday (November 19) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Kettleborough has been a ‘bad luck’ for Team India, for India lost all the ICC knockout matches in his presence. In the knockout stages of the 2014 T20 World Cup, the 2015 ODI World Cup, the 2016 T20 World Cup, the 2017 Champions Trophy, and the 2019 ODI World Cup, one person who was not a part of the team but was present in all of those mentioned matches was Kettleborough. The result? India’s defeat!

The formidable Team India under Rohit Sharma are yet to taste defeat in the 10 matches they have played. The fans are confident that their team will bring the World Cup home after such phenomenal performances, but they are also expecting the team to lose the final to the Aussies, fearing the Kettleborough ‘jinx’.

Will India finally break the Richard Kettleborough jinx?

The moment ICC released the statement regarding the umpires, Indian fans started flooding with memes. However, the hilarious thing about this superstition is that Richard Kettleborough, as per the fans, won’t jinx India this time. After the India versus Bangladesh match, Kettleborough became the talking point of the town. His call had given Virat Kohli a chance to score his hundred, and his expression became a subject of memes.

This is why the Indian fans are hilariously commenting that, as Kettleborough’s decision helped Kohli (an Indian) pull off something to cherish for the Indian supporters, he won’t be a hurdle behind India’s World Cup glory.

Team India last won a World Cup in 2011, while the five-time champions emerged as world champions in the 2015 edition. The Aussies have lost just two matches but are so far able to silence the Ahmedabad crowd in the final.

After Aussie skipper Pat Cummins won the toss, he chose bowling first and later restricted India to a decent total of 240 runs. Mitchell Starc was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped three wickets. The Indian bowlers also bagged three wickets for 60 runs in 10 overs. It will be interesting to see India finally break the Richard Kettleborough jinx.
