It won’t be an exaggeration to say that the Indian supporters will be having sleepless nights for a few days because their hopes, their dreams were crushed by a menacing Australian team led by skipper Pat Cummins. On Sunday (November 19), when Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium turned into a sea of blue, when billions were wishing for just one thing, a patient Travis Head trampled upon their dream.

A 240-run total was not enough to stop Australia from clinching their sixth ODI World Cup trophy. Mitchell Starc, who remained a bit silent in the early stage of the tournament, wreaked havoc in the final with three important wickets. And skipper Cummins, who had aimed to silence the Ahmedabad crowd, was successful in his endeavor when he trapped Virat Kohli and stopped Shreyas Iyer from playing another crucial innings. His decision to bowl first did not backfire either. Everything worked for the six-time champions!

When David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, and Steve Smith were dismissed for small scores, it gave the Indians a glimmer of hope. And though they started expecting a monster innings from Glenn Maxwell, Head became India’s headache. Head missed a couple of games at the start of the World Cup and played just four group-stage matches. But he announced his arrival with a century against New Zealand and finished with another one-the most cherished one.

From 120 balls, Head played a patient innings of 137 runs with 15 boundaries and four sixes, at a strike rate of 114.16. To help Head attack the Indian bowlers on a regular basis, Marnus Labuschagne played the best role of a supporter with his 110-ball 58 runs with four boundaries.

Indian fans are disheartened as Australia clinch sixth World Cup with Travis Head’s century

India did not lose a single group-stage match. All the end of the nine matches they played, they won it with the help of dominating performance. The Indian fans were sure of the addition of the third World Cup to their trophy cabinet, but alas! That did not happen.
