During the recently concluded 2023 ODI World Cup, several former Pakistani players came up with bizarre conspiracy theories. India pacer Mohammed Shami criticized them and asked them to digest someone’s achievements.
Shami was the highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 24 wickets from seven matches at an average of 10.70. He did not play four matches at the start of the tournament but as Hardik Pandya got injured during a match against Bangladesh, the management had to bring in Shami and the paceman did not disappoint at all. In his first match, he scalped a fifer and continued to wreak havoc in the next matches.
After Shami’s 5/18 against Sri Lanka, former Pakistan player Hasan Raza on a news channel said that the ball given to India might be a different ball. Shami slammed him by posting a Story on Instagram and after the conclusion of the quadrennial tournament, he talked in length about the ball change controversy during a podcast with PUMA.
When I started playing, I picked up five wickets then got four, and then another five-for. Some Pakistani players couldn't digest it. They think they are the best. The one who performs at the right time is the best. You are creating controversy for no reason. You are saying we are getting different balls, from different companies and all that. Learn your lesson.Shami said in the podcast.
