India will end their last Group stage match on a high note, there’s no doubt about that. On Sunday, November 12, when the entire team is celebrating Diwali, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer lit up the M Chinnaswamy Stadium with their maiden World Cup centuries in Bengaluru. Rahul also blasted the fastest World Cup century for India.
After winning the toss, India chose to bat first, and they started strongly, for both openers, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill scored their respective half-centuries. After the dismissal of the openers, Virat Kohli continued the assault, scoring his fifty, but couldn’t turn it into a big knock in front of the Chinnaswamy crowd.
As Kohli went back to the dressing room, it was time for Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul to turn their beast mode on. Iyer took 94 balls to score 128 runs and remained unbeaten. Rahul, on the other hand, reached his ton off 62 balls, becoming the fastest centurion for India in World Cups. Bas de Leede dismissed him and Rahul departed after a 64-ball 102-run knock. His knock included 11 fours and four sixes.

Indian fans expected to watch absolute carnage from the players against the Dutchmen. They lavished praise on KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer for finally reaching the 100-year-run mark for the first time in the World Cup despite inching closer to it in early matches.

India have won all nine group-stage matches on the trot and will play the semi-finals against New Zealand on November 15. It will be an interesting semi-final, given that India have a history of losing to New Zealand in the semifinals in ICC events.
