Former Pakistan leg-spinner, Danish Kaneria, revealed what it was like to be a Hindu in the Pakistan team. In the history of Pakistan Cricket, only 2 Hindus have been a part of the Pakistan Cricket team and 7th non Muslim.
On his X account, Kaneria shared a video of Tilakarante Dilshan being convinced by Ahmed Shahzad to convert to Islam. After scoring the match winning runs against Pakistan, he was walking back to the pavilion. The cameraman caught Ahmed Shahzad going up to him and saying, “If you’re non-muslim and turn muslim, no matter whatever you do in life, straight to heaven.” Dilshan’s reply was not audible, but Shahzad commented, “Then get ready for the fire.”
Kaneria captioned the video, “Be it the dressing room, the playground or the dining table, this happened to me every day.” He has always been vocal on how his Pakistani teammates had tried to convert him to Islam. In a TV interview, he said that former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi had also tried convincing him to convert him to Islam. He also said that Afridi used to mistreat him and the Pakistan Cricket Board never helped him out.
