Australia star opener David Warner will be the new face of the Fox Cricket commentary team. The announcement was made when Cricket Australia signed a seven-year deal worth $1.512 billion with Foxtel and Seven Media on Tuesday.
Foxtel CEO Patrick Delany shared his excitement about having Warner amongst the commentary team. “I think it’s not possible to replace Shane (Ware) and Andrew (Symonds),” Foxtel CEO Patrick Delany addressed the media at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Warner will be a part of the box, having stars like Adam Gilchrist, Mike Hussey, Isa Guha, Mark Waugh, Allan Border, Brett Lee, Kerry O’Keeffe, Brendon Julian, Mark Howard, Mel Jones, and Kath Laughnan.
“We’ve thought long and hard about what we might do with the coverage. When you’ve got names like Gilchrist and Guha, Hussey, Border, Waugh, Mel Jones, it’s a very, very big team. (But) if you had one shot though, at a commentator of the current crop to replace those two, you’d probably have to say Dave Warner is the name,” Delany added.

David Warner hasn’t retired from cricket yet
However, Warner hasn’t retired from international cricket yet so he can’t give his full time to the commentary box yet. But according to Delany, Warner can come anytime he wants and can be part of the box “as long as he wants.”
The 34-year-old ended the century draught by slamming a ton and converting it into a double hundred in his 100th Test in the Boxing Day Test against South Africa. Now he is set to play the third Test at the SCG starting on January 4. As soon as the Test gets over, the swashbuckling opener will be joining the Thunder in the Big Bash League.
His major test will be the upcoming Test series in India and England where he often struggled. Notwithstanding his form slowly declining, Warner had previously indicated his decision to play in the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2024 T20 World Cup.
