After being released from the BCCI contracts, Chahar did play the VIjay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, but then was called up to the Indian team. In December he had to pull out of the tour of South Africa, citing a family emergency.

A few weeks later, Chahar did not make himself available for any Ranji Trophy match for Rajasthan. He last played in January 2023, and since then has only played white-ball matches for India and Rajasthan. This has made Jay Shah and the BCCI unhappy, which could lead to dire consequences for not playing the Ranji Trophy. He will now feature for Chennai Super Kings in the 2024 IPL
