Last year, when Dhoni was asked about his participation in IPL 2023, he said that it will be unfair to not play in Chennai and say thank you to the fans.

Four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will start their campaign against defending champions Gujarat Giants in the curtain raiser of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on March 31. CSK skipper MS Dhoni and his team have started practice for the same. CSK’s official Twitter handle has shared several posts of their sweating in the nets. A picture of Dhoni with biceps also sent the netizens into a frenzy.
But there are speculations that this season will be the 41-year-old’s last one. Even he had hinted toward the same in last year’s IPL.
When he was asked about his participation in IPL 2023, the former India captain said that it will be unfair to not play in Chennai and say thank you to the fans. This year, the tournament will be played in the home-and-away format so Dhoni will be playing in front of the Chennai fans.

Deepak Chahar wants MS Dhoni to play as much as he can
Ahead of the showpiece event, CSK paceman Deepak Chahar, who will mark his return after a long injury layoff, was asked about this season being Dhoni’s last one to which the 30-year-old said that he has no idea about the same but is hoping to see Dhoni keep playing as much as he can for the Yellow franchise.
“No one has said that this would be his final year. At least, he hasn’t. Hopefully, he will play more. We don’t know any such thing, we want him to play as much as he can,” Chahar told News India Sports.
Chahar cited the example of the retirement Dhoni took from Tests and international cricket suddenly.
“He knows when to retire, we saw it when he did in Tests and international cricket. No one else knows. I just hope he continues to play, it’s a privilege to play with him. He’s in good touch as well, you will see that when he bats in the IPL this year,” Chahar added.
CSK had a poor season last year where they ended up winning just four out of 14 games. Dhoni had stepped down from captaincy and Ravindra Jadeja was handed the role. But he relinquished the job midway after which Dhoni ended up leading the side in the second half.
