“Definitely not”- Sunil Gavaskar recreates MS Dhoni’s iconic phrase to speculation on his retirement

Sunil Gavaskar
MS Dhoni, 41-year-old Chennai Super Kings is proving this often-used proverb ‘age is just a number’. He is still one of the best and fittest captains right now; his power-hitting while finishing says so.
Since IPL is approaching its business end, the speculation of MS Dhoni’s retirement has again grabbed the spotlight. So, former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar was asked about the same to which he recreates MS Dhoni’s quote during the match between Mumbai Indians and CSK last night at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
“Well, I mean, look at the way he has played. He is clearly showing he is keen, still enthusiastic about the game. In the field, what is sometimes most telling is that when you get to 8-9 and you are looking to sort of give up the game, but here he was running between the overs, he was running from one end to the other, and it shows he was keen to get the next over done.”
“He sensed an opportunity with those 2-3 early wickets but we have seen him do that regularly which means ‘definitely not’. That’s what Dhoni had said when Danny asked him (in 2020),” he added.
Notably, Dhoni had scored the most runs yesterday with an unbeaten 36 when all other CSK batsmen were walking back to the dressing room. Despite his efforts, CSK couldn’t win the match and Mumbai chased the target of 98.

“You’ll definitely see me in the yellow jersey”- MS Dhoni on the next year’s IPL

After the end of the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, MS Dhoni was asked about his retirement to which he gave a confused answer.
“Well, I said last time also, you will definitely see me in the yellow jersey. Whether it is this yellow jersey or some other, you will have to wait and watch.”
