“Dhoni is a big name. But if I see his stats…”- Ex-Pakistan skipper’s unexpected claim on MS Dhoni’s wicket-keeping abilities
MS Dhoni
Former Pakistan wicket-keeper Rashid Latif beilieves that MS Dhoni’s wicket-keeping skills had high dropping percentage.
Dhoni is regarded as one of the greatest captain of all time as he led his team to victory in all ICC championships- ICC World T20, ICC World Cup, and ICC Champions Trophy. His side Chennai Super Kings have won four titles and is the most successful franchise in the Indian Premier League.
But according to Latif, who had also led his team in his playing days made an interesting claim on Dhoni’s wicket-keeping stats.
“Dhoni was a batsman-wicketkeeper. Obviously, Dhoni is a very big name. But if I go into stats, his dropping percentage is 21 percent, which is huge, huge,” Latif said on his official YouTube channel.
He then added that his own records can’t be taken into consideration because the particular record came into practice much later.
“You can’t use my record because this particular record came into being from 2002 or 2003. We had already played by then. Adam Gilchrist had percentage of only 11, Mark Boucher was very good. Australia’s Tim Paine started well but towards the end dropped a lot of catches,” Latif said.
“I would say Quinton de Kock is superb”- Rashid Latif
Rashid Latif then praised South Africa veteran Quinton de Kock because he is an all-format cricketer and his stats are quite good. He had previously aaded that Ian Healy as one of the best keepers because of the way the Australuan handled Shane Warne in subcontinent tracks.
“If you look at the best in last 15 years, then I would say Quinton de Kock is superb, has kept in all three formats and batted at the top of the order in white ball cricket,” he added.
