“You can’t take chances with a makeshift keeper,” former India cricketer hopes of not seeing KL Rahul as wicketkeeper vs Australia Tests
KS Bharat and Ishan Kishan are the other two wicketkeepers on the team. So it will be interesting to see who amongst the three gets the chance to stand behind the stumps.
KL Rahul
A couple of days are left for the much-awaited four-match Test series against Australia, which is slated to start on February 9 in Nagpur. Ahead of the series, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 17-member quad for the first two Tests.
Cricket fans on Twitter are not satisfied with the squad members because, according to them, several talents have not been considered at all, like Sarfaraz Khan and Prithvi Shaw. Apart from this, impact players have sustained injuries and a few of them have recovered, but their availability will be subject to fitness.
Rishabh Pant, India’s first-choice wicketkeeper will be out of action owing to his sustaining injuries in a car crash last year on December 30. Spearhead Jasprit Bumrah may make his comeback.
Many eyebrows were raised after seeing KL Rahul’s name on the squad. Rahul was one of India’s consistent batters, but now, his form has slumped a bit, and he is struggling to score runs. And as Pant got injured, the management can go for Rahul to keep the wickets, but at the same time, he is not a regular keeper.

KS Bharat and Ishan Kishan are the other two wicket-keeping options apart from KL Rahul
KS Bharat and Ishan Kishan are the other two wicketkeepers on the team. So it will be interesting to see who amongst the three gets the chance to stand behind the stumps.
There are debates surrounding the same on Twitter, and several fans once again slammed the decision to include Rahul in the squad, wanting KS Bharat to do the job. One of Rahul’s critics is the former Indian cricketer Dodda Ganesh who called the 30-year-old a “makeshift keeper”.
“Cannot believe that people are seriously considering KL Rahul as a wicket keeping option in tests. Well that’s the last thing the Indian think tank should do. You can’t take chances with a makeshift keeper in tests. Hopefully we’ll not see KL keeping,” Dodda Ganesh wrote on Twitter.
