The India versus Australia series has come to an end. Players will enjoy their free time, rejuvenate themselves, and will shift their focus to the next mega event of the year- the Indian Premier League (IPL). Though the next two months will witness nail-biting encounters, many from the cricket fraternity believe, it will exhaust the players a great deal.

After the cash-rich league, India will be gearing for another important tournament- the World Test Championship (WTC) final, a week after IPL final. And India won’t be playing in their comfort zone in home conditions where spinners, mainly Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, rule. The one-off showpiece event will be played at The Oval this June 7 where Rohit Sharma and co. will face Australia and their fast bowlers. Yes, India are nearly unconquerable in home conditions but what plans they bring into action will be seen in the UK, the place where India tasted defeat against New Zealand in the previous WTC final.

There is no doubt India is one of the best Test-playing teams. But injuries are something they are dealing from the last couple of months. The huge assets of the teams- Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant can’t play in the WTC final; Pant, due to the accident last year, and Bumrah due to a stress fracture.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is repeatedly blamed for its mishandling of Bumrah. Bumrah himself faces brutal attacks from the fans for his never missing IPL matches, but getting injured during national duties. Shreyas Iyer is likely to miss the WTC final due to back issues.

And now India captain Rohit Sharma is doubtful whether the players will take a break from playing one or two IPL games. IPL teams are owned by franchises so it will be up to them whether they’ll allow the players to miss a few games or not, said Rohit.

It’s all up to the franchises now. They own them now. We have given some indications to the teams but at the end of the day, it’s up to the franchise. And more importantly, it’s up to the players,” Rohit said after the third ODI.

“”Most importantly, it’s the players, they have to take care of their own body, they are all adults. If they feel it’s getting a bit too much, they can talk about it and take a break in one or two games. I doubt if that will happen, ” Rohit added. This is the ODI World Cup year and Indian players would want to keep injuries at a bay.

Fans also agree with Rohit that the players in IPL won’t miss a game due to “money”. Check their reactions below:
