In the last 50 years, Ravindra Jadeja became the first Indian cricketer to have scored past 150 with a five-wicket haul in the same match; also, the 6th cricketer to have achieved this feat. He also broke Kapil Dev‘s record for the highest run at No. 7 by an Indian. But he narrowly missed the record of becoming the first player in the history of Test to go past 150 runs with 10 wickets. Overall, he scored 175 runs and grabbed 9 wickets.

It’s worth mentioning some landmarks achieved in this match. Starting with the result of Rohit Sharma’s first Test match as a captain didn’t disappoint him as his team came out with a victory after scoring 574/8d. Former captain Virat Kohli, although could give only 45 with the bat, does this in his 100th Test. Jadeja, with other records, had also scored his second hundred. Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, after taking 6 wickets, surpassed Kapil Dev to become the second most wicket-takers in India, is only behind Anil Kumble.

“To be honest I don’t know about any stat. Feeling very good, happy to score runs and pick wickets for the team. Obviously, as a player, you boost your confidence with such a performance,” said Ravindra Jadeja after winning the Man of the Match award.

“He is one of the top. Look at the performances: to get 175 not out and then take nine wickets in the game; he’s just upping his game every time you see him.” Said Rohit Sharma in a virtual post-match conference.

“He’s very hungry; as you can see that hunger drives athletes to move forward and I see that in Jadeja clearly. He’s quite hungry for success, quite hungry to get runs and do well for the team.”

The all-rounder feels the ground in Mohali in Punjab is lucky for him as it gives him a positive vibe. It’s his 3rd successive Man of the Match award in Mohali. As the next match will be played in Bengaluru with the pink ball, Ravindra Jadeja said he will work towards getting used to the pink ball.
