Ex-Australia player wants Delhi Capitals to open with THIS star because ‘IPL 2023 may not be’ Prithvi Shaw’s year

Prithvi Shaw

Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody, who coached Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their title-winning season in 2016, urged Delhi Capitals (DC) to make a ‘cold, hard decision’, and drop Prithvi Shaw in their next games. DC have lost all five matches they have played so far.

Across the five matches, Shaw has scored just 34 runs, including two ducks. And ahead of DC’s next match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Thursday night, Moody wants DC’s management to drop Shaw and play Aussie star Mitchell Marsh as an opener alongside David Warner.

You’ve got to make a tough call on certain players that aren’t showing any light at the end of the tunnel. And on the evidence of what we’ve seen so far with Prithvi Shaw, it may well be that IPL 2023 may not be his year where he has the impact that we all hoped that he was going to have,” Moody said on ESPNCricinfo.

Moody then urged the Capitals not to give Shaw a couple of more games because it may cost the franchise later. “Those couple of games go, your chances as a franchise have gone. That’s what you’ve got to make that cold, hard decision at that point. This is crunch time.”

Delhi Capitals’ poor batting line-up has been exposed in all five matches. Only David Warner is scoring consistently, though, they are all sluggish innings.

Apart from him, Axar Patel, who has improved a lot on his batting, has been a consistent batter throughout Capitals’ matches. Tom Moody wants DC’s think tank, including head coach Ricky Ponting to allow Patel to come out to bat at No. 5 in their matches.
