“Let’s not confuse T20Is with the IPL,” ex-India player feels IPL records cannot guarantee Ishan Kishan success in T20Is

Chopra's comment came after Kishan produced flop shows with the bat in the first two T20Is against West Indies before he was dropped for the third match and Yashasvi Jaiswal was included.

Former India cricketer and now a cricket pundit Aakash Chopra opined that looking at Ishan Kishan‘s record in the Indian Premier League (IPL), one must not expect that the youngster will continue that form in T20Is too. Chopra’s comment came after Kishan produced flop shows with the bat in the first two T20Is against West Indies before he was dropped for the third match and Yashasvi Jaiswal was included.

Kishan scored some mere runs in the first two T20Is. Chopra compared his numbers in T20Is with that of Suryakumar Yadav‘s ODI numbers to prove his statement.

He has scored a double century in ODI cricket as an opener but he hasn’t fired in T20Is. Let’s not confuse T20Is with the IPL,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

Chopra explained himself by saying that in IPL, there are 14 matches and if an important batter like Kishan is for the Mumbai Indians (MI) comes to bat at the top order, then his place is secured. And by keep playing a lot of matches, the batter finds his rhythm, which is not the case when a player plays T20Is.

Former India pacer Rudra Pratap Singh feels that if KL Rahul is not available, then Ishan Kishan will be included in the squad for the forthcoming ODI World Cup in India this year. Rahul is recuperating from surgery and there are reports that he is fully fit to play matches.

However, RP Singh, on JioCinema, opined that Indian management should bat Kishan at the No. 5 position in the last two T20Is against West Indies to help him learn batting at the No. 5 position if he is included in the squad as a backup option for Rahul for the ODI World Cup. The prestigious tournament will start on October 5 with India playing their first match on October 8 against Australia in Chennai.
