Indian management would not have to stress over preparing a solid squad for the forthcoming ODI World Cup if the Men in Blue Virat Kohli still was the captain, opined former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif. Kohli relinquished India’s captaincy in 2021, and it created a massive controversy.
India have a huge task at hand at present- to win the ODI World Cup. But the recent failures of the Men in Blue in bilateral as well as the World Test Championship (WTC) Final have raised many eyebrows. India head coach Rahul Dravid revealed the management was experimenting with the playing XI by dropping Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma in the third ODI match against West Indies but the Indian fans did not take it lightly.
Debate is still going on over which player can fill the void of the No.4 position in the batting line-up now. KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer’s availability remains uncertain, and Rishabh Pant is recuperating after experiencing a life-threatening car crash last year. Suryakumar Yadav still hasn’t adapted himself to the 50-over format. Latif said that had Kohli been the captain, India wouldn’t have faced much trouble.
“If they had allowed Virat Kohli to continue as captain, India would have been 100 percent prepared for the World Cup by this time,” Latif said on his YouTube channel. He went on to add that from No.4 to No.7, the management hasn’t allowed the new players to settle down.
Sanjay Bangar wants Virat Kohli to play in the 2024 T20 World Cup
Former India cricketer Sanjay Bangar wants Virat Kohli to play in the 2024 T20 World Cup in West Indies and USA. Bangar cannot see the reason why Kohli should not be playing in the World Cup by recalling his exploits in the previous editions.
Bangar opined that big players are needed in high-profile matches because they are the ones who have experienced playing in such an electrifying environment. The 50-year-old added that if someone is a big-match player like Kohli, then it doesn’t matter what his strike rate is or how he has performed in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Bangar recalled that memorable match Kohli played against Pakistan in the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia to assert his point.
