Yuzvendra Chahal represented the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for eight years until he was released by the franchise before the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL). And while the franchise bought pacer Harshal Patel for Rs 10.5 crore, they didn’t get involved in the bidding war for the leggie.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) secured the services of Chahal after signing him for INR 6.5 crore following a bidding war between Mumbai Indians (MI), RR, and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Chahal, on the Beer Biceps podcast, revealed that being released from the franchise after playing 114 games for them had made him upset. The former RCB director Mike Hesson said he doesn’t blame Chahal, and that he has a right to be angry.
I remember ringing Yuzi afterward and he was upset. It was very difficult to try and explain to him the auction dynamics at that time. He was visibly disinterested, and I don’t blame him. He was an RCBian and he was frustrated. But I can assure everyone that he is well aware of the issues we were confronted with.Hesson told Cricket.com
Hesson added that the problem was with the auction. He explained that though RCB wanted to buy both Patel and Chahal, the latter not appearing in the marquee players’ list was the main reason RCB couldn’t buy him. After Chahal’s name was announced in Set Six, RCB did not have enough money to buy the leg spinner.
Yuzvendra Chahal’s stats in IPL
Yuzvendra Chahal now plays for RR and in the first season with the franchise in IPL 2022, Chahal emerged as the highest wicket-taker. In 17 matches, Chahal scalped 27 wickets, helping the former IPL champions to their second final in the cash-rich league.

Chahal was first with the Mumbai Indians squad and joined RCB in 2014. In total, Chahal has played 145 matches, scalping 187 wickets at an economy rate of 7.67. He has four four-wicket hauls and one fifer to his name.
