“Like breaking up with a girlfriend,” Faf du Plessis says India won’t easily forget the heartbreaking World Cup final defeat to Australia
Du Plessis cited the example of South Africa's 2015 World Cup exit, saying such defeats feel like breaking up with a girlfriend.

Former South African captain Faf du Plessis said India won’t get over their heartbreaking defeat to Australia soon, and that it will take time to forget it. India lost to Australia by six wickets in the final after continuously winning 10 matches on the trot.
Both the teams then played five T20Is against each other. Team India has the next assignment against South Africa starting December 10. In an exclusive interview with NDTV, du Plessis cited the example of South Africa’s 2015 World Cup exit, saying such defeats feel like breaking up with a girlfriend.

He added:
The heartache that you have to deal with takes a bit of time, and it is a bit like breaking up with a girlfriend. You cannot just get over it straight away.
Faf du Plessis hints at return for T20 World Cup
Faf du Plessis has been producing stellar performances in the shortest format. He is currently in Abu Dhabi participating in a tournament.
While talking to the ICC, the 39-year-old hinted at his comeback to international cricket before the start of the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies. Du Plessis said he can return to international cricket and has been in discussion with South Africa’s new white-ball coach Rob Walter. The former South African skipper said they are figuring out the balance for the T20 World Cup next year.
The 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) was Du Plessis’ best year in terms of the runs he scored. In 14 matches, he scored 475 runs at a strike rate of 153.68, which also included eight fifties.
