The Rajiv Gandhi Stadium had a great crowd on 25th January as India and England faced each other in the first Test of the 5-match Test series. The crowd was loud, kept chanting for the Indian team and celebrated as loudly as they could. One fan decided to take it to the next level and managed to get on the field.
The fan, wearing an Indian Test jersey with Virat Kohli’s name- but he was not present for the match– and number printed at the back, got past the security. He ran up to Rohit Sharma, who was batting in the middle. He hugged the Indian captain and touched Sharma’s feet as well. Before he could interact more with Sharma, he was dragged off the field by security.

In the past few years, there has been a huge fan war between Sharma fans and Kohli fans. Both have kept hurling insults at the opposite side, but many fans found the interaction between Sharma and the fan nice. Some did object to it, calling it a huge security breach and risk for the players.

India on front foot in 1st Test
Electing to bat first, England only lasted over two sessions as India bowled out England for just 246 runs. Ravindra Jadeja and R. Ashwin picked up three wickets each, while Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel picked up two each.

Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal gave India a great start. The youngster hit debutant, Tom Hartley, for two sixes in his first over and didn’t stop his onslaught as he finished the day with 76 off 70. Rohit Sharma put up 24 before being caught at mid-on after playing a reckless shot. Ben Stokes wasted all of England’s reviews by the 14th over as well. India ended the day with 119/1 on the board, with a trail of 127 runs.
