On 3rd October, Yashasvi Jaiswal became the youngest Indian to score a T20I ton against Nepal in the 2023 Asian Games. Coming in to open for India, he scored his maiden century in just 48 balls against Nepal. This is the 4th fastest T20I century by an Indian, tied with Suryakumar Yadav.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s innings had 8 boundaries and 7 sixes. Thanks to his century, India posted a massive score of 202 runs. At the age of 21 Years and 279 days, he became the youngest Indian to score a T20I ton. Before him, it was Shubman Gill, who scored his first T20I century at the age of 23. 

Jaiswal is also the 2nd fastest batsman to score their fastest T20I century, tied with Shubman Gill. Both had taken just six innings to score a century, while KL Rahul had scored his first century in just 4 innings. He is also the first Indian to score a century in a multi-sport event.

Indian team qualifies for the Asian Games semi-final

India won their match against Nepal by 23 runs. They have qualified for the semi-finals of the Men’s Cricket Tournament of the 2022 Asian Games, where they will now face the winner of the match between Bangladesh and Malaysia.

Thanks to the century by Yashasvi Jaiswal and a quickfire 37 off 15 by Rinku Singh, India posted a huge target of 202 runs. Nepal lost their first wicket in the fourth overs thanks to Avesh Khan dismissing Asaif Sheikh. They lost 3 more wickets until Dipendra Singh Airee and Sundeep Jora started to fight back. Unfortunately both departed in the span of two overs. Nepal finished their innings with the score of 179. 

India will now play on the 6th of October, with Bangladesh and Malaysia facing each other on 4th October. India are currently the favorites to win the prestigious Gold Medal, with the Woman’s Indian team already winning it.
