“Absolute shortsighted fools!”- Fans lambast BCCI for naming Ajinkya Rahane as vice-captain of Indian Test team, question Ruturaj Gaikwad’s inclusion over Abhimanyu Easwaran
Like always, fans on Twitter are slamming the BCCI for choosing the squad based on players' IPL performances and not how they fared in Ranji Trophy.

Rohit Sharma and Co. are set to play two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is in West Indies in July. On Friday (June 23), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released the squad list on Twitter, only to infuriate the fans.
They could not believe that Abhimanyu Easwaran who has been toiling hard in domestic cricket, was yet again ignored and instead, BCCI gave a chance to Ruturaj Gaikwad based on his exploits in the Indian Premier League (IPL). At the same the time, Ajinkya Rahane getting the vice-captaincy in Tests was also baffling for the fans.
Though there have been hues and cries over the captaincy spot due to India’s humiliating failure at the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia, Rohit Sharma retained his place and may lead India until the 2023 ODI World Cup. Rohit’s deputy will be Ajinkya Rahane. When many thought Rahane was included just for the WTC Final, the selectors, instead, made him a permanent member of the squad.
Meanwhile, the BCCI Selection Committee included a few fresh faces to show that they are thinking about the transition. And talking about the newcomers who can have the chance to don the white jersey for the very first time, Mukesh Kumar, Gaikwad, and Yashasvi Jaiswal have got a chance.
Jaiswal who represents the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, collected a total of 625 runs at a strike rate of 163.61 in 14 matches with five fifties and a century. The Mumbai opener also piled up runs in the Ranji Trophy. But another consistent performer, Easwaran was ignored.

Sarfaraz Khan who has the best average in first-class cricket after the legendary Sir Donald Bradman, still has to wait for his inclusion in the Test squad. Like always, fans on Twitter are slamming the BCCI for choosing the squad based on players’ IPL performances and not how they fared in Ranji Trophy. 27-year-old Abhimanyu Easwaran, who has been scoring runs consistently in first-class matches, is yet to make his debut for the Indian Test team.
Test squad: Rohit Sharma (Capt), Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ajinkya Rahane (VC), KS Bharat (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Axar Patel, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat, Navdeep Saini.
